Once again I am sorry to say that I have to have a go at Europcar.
Having spent a week in Madeira over the New Year period I called into their Funchal
Office on the Estrada Monumental and enquired how much they would charge me for a
car in the smallest Mini class.
After I bit of thumping around on the computer I was told that this would be Euros
118.00 for the two days which I thought was rather expensive.
I left it and went back to my hotel which was literally next door and logged onto
the Internet with my Nexus Tablet and the result which came back from Rentalcars.com
was Euros 57.00 , virtually half price.
At this stage, if you book with one of the hire car search engine they don’t tell
you the Car Hire Provider but they show you a little map of their location which
was the same as Europcar.
I consequently booked it and paid for it online and when the confirmation arrived
by email it shown that it was indeed Europcar who had just quoted me 118.00 Euros.
The next day I collected the car without any problems.
The moral of the story is quite simple – Don’t accept any quote they give you when
you walk into these car hire places; just get a price and go back to your hotel or
an Internet cafe and book it online.
I guarantee it’s a lot cheaper
What I saved paid for a lunchtime meal and all the petrol I used.
