Please be aware of the new rip-off by Europcar and their new spin-off INTERENT if
you hire a car from them in Spain.
They will lure you to make your reservation with them by quoting you a very low price
but when you get there you will be told that, according to their conditions, you
will be charged for a full tank of fuel and that you should bring back the car empty.
Whilst this policy is bad enough for your purse as it is virtually impossible to
return a hire car with an empty tank they will also charge you, in addition to the
full tank of fuel, a refuelling charge of 27.00 Euros.
This is a total con, they already gaining the fuel which was left in the tank, they
refuse to allow you to bring back the car with a full tank and they then charge you
a ridiculous high price to fill in back up.
This happened to me in Almeria when they charged me nearly £90.00 in addition to
the hire charge.
When I complained to their main office in Madrid and questioned the amount they had
charged to my credit card they told me in writing and I quote .............
“we would like to inform you need to add the refuelling service (27 Euro) to the
sum you have calculated to arrive at the final amount charged as full tank option
To add insult to injury they also converted the Euro amount to Pound Sterling at
an exchange rate of 1.02 Euros to the Pound at a time when the true exchange rate
was about 1.20 Euros.
My correspondence to Europcar in the United Kingdom and a further letter to Europcar
Spain remain unanswered todate which confirms that they are fully aware that they
are cheating and defrauding the clients who rent a car from them.
SO PLEASE BE WARNED AND DO NOT RENT YOUR CAR FROM EUROPCAR OR INTERRENT UNLESS YOU
WANT TO BE CHEATED AND CONNED BY THIS COMPANY WHO HASN’T EVEN GOT THE COURTESY TO
RESPOND TO CORRESPONDANCE.
Hertz Car Rentals in Spain and the Canary Island have also adapted the full fuel
tank option for rental periods exceeding three days but they make it quite clear
in their conditions that they will NOT charge
you a refuelling charge
Please check around and compare the charges before you make a reservation with INTERRENT
THE COMPLAINT SHOP did send a copy of this page to EUROPCAR in the United Kingdom
prior to its publication and asked them to settle this matter amicably with the
complainant but EUROPCAR ignored this request and did not contact us or the complainant.
The conclusion to this must be that EUROPCAR are obviously fully aware that they
are deceiving their clients and the COMPLAINT SHOP has got no other option but to
advise travellers to avoid this company and go elsewhere.
It is bad enough if you feel conned by this company but if the company does not respond
to any correspondence and does not communicate with you then you know that you have
no chance of getting any redress if things go wrong.
